A Georgia restaurant has gone viral for a $50 “adult surcharge” it adds to the bill for families who are too loud when dining.

According to TODAY, Lyndsey Landmann, her husband and two kids dined at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in Blue Ridge, Georgia, with four other families. There were 11 kids in the party.

Landmann said restaurant owner Tim Richter came to the table after the group, which included kids 3 to 8, had finished dessert. He explained the “adult surcharge.” She said Richter told them that there would be a $50 charge for the children being “too loud” and “running around outside.”

“I was like, ‘They were quiet the whole time.’ He got in our faces and told us that we belonged at Burger King and not at his restaurant,” she told TODAY. “We asked to speak to the owner and he said he was the owner. I looked around the restaurant and everybody was frozen watching this show he was putting on. He was yelling.”

A photo of the restaurant’s parenting fee went viral on Reddit earlier this week. The menu states the policy, but Landmann thought it was a joke.
